John Lhotsky (1795?-1866?)(bio) recorded observations of the Limestone Plains of present day Canberra whilst on his exploration of the Australian Alps in 1834. This clipping from the Canberra Times dated 12 March 1938 relates his prophesy of a "fine town" that would eventually be built 80 years after, Australia's national capital Canberra.
